【Awards and Commendations】Masafumi Komiya, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (M1)

On 7/4/2025, Masafumi Komiya, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (M1), received the “Best Poster Award” at The 10th International Conference on Discrete Element Methods (DEM10).

〈Name of award and short explanation about the award〉

Best Poster Award

This award is presented for an outstanding poster at the 10th International Conference on Discrete Element Methods (DEM10).

〈About awarded research〉

Title: Elucidation on the suction effect on powder die filling by DEM-CFD simulation

Presentation overview: Powder die-filling is a critical pre-compaction process for powder-based manufacturing and plays an essential role across various industries, including pharmaceutical production, powder metallurgy, and ceramic molding for semiconductor packaging. In this study, we investigated the physical phenomena occurring during powder die-filling through numerical simulations based on the Discrete Element Method coupled with Computational Fluid Dynamics (DEM-CFD). The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the theory-based design of production processes in diverse industrial fields, including the pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries.

〈Your impression & future plan〉

I am truly honored to receive this prestigious award. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Professor Mikio Sakai for his invaluable guidance. I am also deeply thankful to all the members of my laboratory for their advice and support. Encouraged by this award, I will continue to devote myself to further research with enthusiasm.
