【Awards and Commendations】Toshiki Imatani, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (D3)

On 11/27/2024, Toshiki Imatani, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (D3), received the “ Best Poster Award” at the SPTJ Autumn Meeting 2024.

〈Name of award and short explanation about the award〉

Best Poster Award

This award is given to an individual under the age of 35 whose poster presentation is outstanding in content and method at SPTJ Autumn Meeting 2024.

〈About awarded research〉

Title of presentation: Application of coarse-grained DEM to gas-solid two-phase flow with heat transfer

Abstract of presentation: DEM-CFD is a widely adopted approach for simulating gas-solid flows. However, the accuracy of heat transfer analysis diminishes when existing DEM-CFD methods are applied. To address this limitation, we developed a novel method capable of maintaining accuracy even when coarse-grained DEM is employed to analyze heat transfer in solid particles. To validate the method, we investigated the cooling behavior of solid particles in a fluidized bed. The results demonstrated that the proposed approach accurately simulates heat transfer in solid particles without any loss of precision, which often occurs in conventional models, even under coarse-grained DEM conditions.

〈Your impression & future plan〉

I am deeply honored to receive this award. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Mikio Sakai for his continuous guidance and support. I would also like to thank everyone at Sakai lab for their advice and support. I am encouraged by this award and will continue to devote myself to my research with the goal of further improving my work.
