【Awards and Commendations】Masafumi Komiya, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (M1)

On 7/10/2025, Masafumi Komiya, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (M1), received the “Young Researcher Award” at The 8th International Conference on the Characterization and Control of Interfaces for High Quality Advanced Materials (ICCCI2025).

〈Name of award and short explanation about the award〉

Young Researcher Award

This award is presented for an outstanding poster at The 8th International Conference on the Characterization and Control of Interfaces for High Quality Advanced Materials (ICCCI2025).

〈About awarded research〉

Title: DEM-CFD simulation on the suction effect in powder die filling

Presentation overview: Powder die-filling is a critical pre-compaction process for powder-based manufacturing and plays an essential role across various industries, including pharmaceutical production, powder metallurgy, and ceramic molding for semiconductor packaging. Since the ability to achieve rapid and proper filling directly affects the quality and productivity of final products, it is essential to understand the physical phenomena occurring during the powder die-filling process. In this study, we conducted numerical simulations of a powder die-filling system using the Discrete Element Method coupled with Computational Fluid Dynamics (DEM-CFD). The findings of this research are expected to enable theory-based design of production processes in a wide range of industries, including the pharmaceutical and semiconductor sectors.

〈Your impression & future plan〉

I am truly honored to receive this prestigious award. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Professor Mikio Sakai for his invaluable guidance. I am also deeply thankful to all the members of my laboratory for their advice and support. Encouraged by this award, I will continue to devote myself to further research with enthusiasm.
