【Awards and Commendations】LI Boen, Sakai lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (D1)

On 31 July 2025, LI Boen, Sakai Lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (D1), received the “Excellence Award” at the 21st Japan Society of Maintenology (JSM) conference.

〈Name of award and short explanation about the award〉

Excellence Award

This award is given to young researchers who delivered excellence oral and poster presentations at the 21st Japan Society of Maintenology (JSM) conference.

〈About awarded research〉

Poster Title: Analysis of debris bed formation process based on CGDEM – CFD model

Summary: In a core disruptive accident, part of the molten core is ejected into the coolant in the form of jets, leading to the formation of a debris bed. The shape of this debris bed significantly affects the temperature distribution within the system. To analyze the debris bed formation process in detail, the system was simulated using the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). To ensure both the efficiency and flexibility of the numerical model, a DEM coarse-grained model and a refined grid model were applied.

〈Your impression & future plan〉

I am honored to have received the “Excellence Award”. I am also thankful to the members of Sakai Laboratory, especially Professor Mikio SAKAI, Project Researcher Dr. Toshiki IMATANI, and Project Researcher IMAI for their guidance and contribution toward this research.
