【Awards and Commendations】TANAKA Hiroki, Takata lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (M1)

On 9/12/2024, TANAKA Hiroki, Takata lab, Department of Nuclear Engineering and Management, (M1), received “The 8th Atomic Energy Society of Japan, Risk Science and Technology Division Award” at the Atomic Energy Society of Japan’s 2024 Annual Meeting.

〈Name of award and short explanation about the award〉

“The 8th Atomic Energy Society of Japan, Risk Science and Technology Division Award”

This award is given for an outstanding presentation at the Atomic Energy Society of Japan’s 2024 Annual Meeting.

〈About awarded research〉

Title of Presentation: Study on Probabilistic Approach for Best Estimate of Fuel Rod Fracture

Summary of Presentation: To achieve a more rational risk assessment of nuclear facilities, it is necessary to accurately evaluate both the plant response (stress side) and the strength side, including uncertainties. To achieve a more rational and realistic core damage determination, this study proposes a best-estimate approach for fuel rod fracture. We examined a best-estimate method for fuel rod fracture that considers uncertainties by integrating a fuel fracture probability estimation model for loss-of-coolant accidents with plant response analysis.

〈Your impression & future plan〉

I am deeply honored to receive such high recognition from the selection committee. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the selection committee members who reviewed my work, the organizers who provided the opportunity for this conference presentation, and the professors who have guided me throughout my research. I will continue to dedicate myself to my research endeavors, striving to live up to the honor of this prestigious award.
