Title: Investigation of the powder mixing mechanism in a ribbon mixer
by DEM simulation

Powder mixing is an important process that has a significant impact on
the quality of the products. Homogeneous and efficient mixing is
required. Although a ribbon mixer is very common, the main mixing
mechanism is still unknown, and so the equipment geometry is designed
empirically.  In this study, the design optimization of the powder
mixing of a ribbon mixer was performed by the DEM simulations. The
main design optimization parameter was identified. The dominant mixing
mechanism in the ribbon mixer was clarified.
