■About awarded research

Multiphase flows including solid particles are often encountered in many engineering fields. Because the multiphase flows are extremely complex phenomena, the introduction of numerical method is desired for the better understanding. The DEM-CFD method is regarded as the practical method for the solid-fluid coupling problems. Although the adequacy of the DEM-CFD method has been proven in previous works, it is still of great difficulty to calculate the multiphase flow with thin walls. This is because the CFD grid size should be sufficiently larger than the particle diameter to evaluate the void fraction in the Local volume average technique. To solve this problem, we propose a flexible discretization method, referred as to the Flexible Eulerian-Lagrangian method (FELM). The adequacy of the FELM is proven through validation tests.

■Your impression & future plan
It’s my great pleasure to win this award. I really thank Prof. Mikio Sakai for his excellent supervision and also all members of my laboratory. I will try to improve my researches.
