4.About awarded research
Title: Verification study on a coarse grain model in large-scale DEM-CFD simulation

Gas-solid flow is often encountered in various particle processes. To understand the phenomena of gas-solid flow, numerical simulations are often performed. DEM-CFD method, one of the Eulerian-Lagrangian methods, is often used for simulation of gas-solid flow. Although this method is well established, it has a problem of calculational difficulty when we apply this method to large-scale systems because these systems have an enormous number of particles and complex wall boundary. To overcome these difficulties, we developed an integrated-DEM-CFD method, which combines the coarse graining model and advanced DEM-CFD method. In this study, to validate integrated-DEM-CFD method, we performed numerical simulation and experiment of fluidized bed with inserted tubes and compared these results qualitatively and quantitatively.

It is my great honor to win this award. I really thank Prof. Mikio Sakai for his excellent supervision, Prof. Charley Wu for his advice to our joint research, and I also thank all members of my laboratory. I will keep researching hard and try to improve our researches.
